Crossing The Line

Crossing the Line Trailer from rsalisbu on Vimeo.

Kelly Richmond Pope (Assistant Professor, School of Accountancy) and Rick Salisbury (Video Producer for the College of Commerce) have collaborated on creating a white-collar crime documentary project entitled, "Crossing the Line: Ordinary People Committing Extraordinary Crimes.” The 90-minute film will be completed at the end of November.

Kelly has assembled a series of short vignettes and cases created from the documentary, which DePaul faculty can use in their courses. If interested, please contact Kelly for details.

A trailer to Crossing the Line can be found here.

Online CPA Review - New Schedule

Beginning Winter Quarter, all four sections of DePaul’s Online CPA Review will be offered each quarter, along this schedule:

Weeks 1-7 REG and FAR
Weeks 8-11 AUD and BEC

Exact dates are posted on http://cpareview.depaul.edu/calendar. The CPA Review is a time-intensive online course, and ensure that students are appropriately pacing their study, students may register for one section only at any given time, i.e. REG or FAR but not both, and AUD or BEC but not both.

2015 Update

Please note: The CPA Review Program has been discontinued. As the market has shifted primarily to a handful of CPA Review providers, it has been increasingly challenging for school providers such as DePaul to be able to sustain the enrollment that it needs in order to be offered. DePaul has been preparing students to sit for the CPA exam for nearly 100 years. We hope that you will continue to find the exam review preparation that you need to achieve your goals.

DePaul will may continue to offer events and workshops of interest to CPA candidates. Please visit the Accountancy website at http://accountancy.depaul.edu for more information.

OpenClass - Google/Pearson Free LMS

OpenClass

There is another shakeup in the LMS (Learning Management System) community taking place - Google and Pearson have joined forces to launch OpenClass, a free LMS. Whilst there is already a free (open source LMS) with Moodle, the collaboration between Google and Pearson is definitely going to be attractive to some. Google will be launching via Google Apps for Educators later, but in the meantime you can find out more here.

iVersity

iversity

Beth Rubin shared a link to the new iversity, iversity allows faculty and administrators to “create their own online academic network, join or create courses, upload and share content, or collaborate within research projects”. I have not had a chance to properly explore what is possible, but have created a basic account. One feature that looks interesting is their use of social reading:

“This feature allows users to take notes, comment and highlight content in texts and images – online and live. This transforms online reading into an enriching social experience. Social Reading is at the heart of what iversity is here to do: transform the internet into a empowering tool for academic collaboration and participation. This can be a powerful tool for discussions and exam revision, for example.”

Learning with iPad Follow-Up

mountin

There have been two Technology Tuesdays presentations on the iPad in the classroom: One given by me on the 31st August, 2010, and then a guest presentation given by Keith Mountin and Jack McLaughlin earlier today (6th October, 2011). I have combined resources from both presentations on here.

Keith provides some very useful teaching resources on his website, that I think will be of use to DePaul faculty and staff.
