Adena DeMonte will graduate this June from DePaul University with a B.F.A. in Theatre Studies and a triple minor in studio art, sociology and journalism. Her career aspirations include working as a journalist and non-fiction book writer, although she is also interested in returning to graduate school for sociology (to study the sociology & social psychology of knowledge, education, intellect, cognition and creativity) and ultimately pursuing a career in education reform.
Adena began designing webpages using basic blank editors on Geocities.com during prolonged periods of procrastination when she was 13 years old and has since taught herself HTML, Photoshop and Dreamweaver.
She studied drawing/painting, fashion, art history, costume design and performance at various institutions such as Parsons School of Design, Pratt Institute, the Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T.), U.C.L.A., Charles University (Prague, Czech Republic) and The Theatre School of DePaul University.
Adena is a weekly contributor of theatre reviews, feature stories, illustrations and columns for The DePaulia. She sings in the Music School's Concert Choir and currently interns at the DePaul Documentary Project with Carol Marin and Don Moseley of NBC5 and the Chicago Sun-Times.
Most recently she directed Clementine, a 24 Hour Theatre production (2005), assistant scenic designed The Theatre School's production of Dracula, performed in The Vagina Monologues (2004), performed in and assistant costume designed the About Face Youth Theatre production of Up Until Now at the Goodman Theatre and assistant directed Flyin' West at The Theatre School. Her artwork has previously been featured in the NJ State Teen Arts Tour & Calender and in The Home News Tribune (East Brunswick, NJ).
Adena is available for freelance web design, copywriting, illustration and many other related projects.
