Grading Criteria

Objective:By the end of the assignment you should have all of the info that will be on your site and the rationale as to why people should/will go to your site. You should also have know what you want your site to look like when you are finished with it at the end of the quarter.

In terms of the rationale of your site, consider and answer the following questions.

For this assignment you will:

  1. Research the topic of your page
    1. What are some of the other sites that do the same thing or similar things?
    2. How do you want yours to be different?

  2. Ask yourself these design questions
    1. What is the goal of your site?
    2. Who is the intended audience of your site?
    3. Why will they want to go to your site?
    4. What will they expect to be able to do on your site?
    5. What kind of technology (browser/platform) will they be using to access your site?
    6. What are some basic user characteristics of your audience (age? any disabilities? native language/culture? reading level? Internet experience level?)

  3. Write the textual information to be housed on your site in a text editor. The site information should be text only at this point meaning no links, images, paragraph formatting etc...
    1. Will the information available to them on your page meet their needs?

  4. Put the text into an unformatted html page

  5. Sketch out (with plain paper and pencil) the design, layout, navigation and design elements of your page (bullets, lists, tables, pictures, colors etc).
    1. how does the information flow in your site
    2. what actions do you do in what section of the site
    3. what colors will best suit the site's purpose
    4. what kind of pictures will your site need
    5. Will the actions and information available to them on your page meet their needs?

  6. You will then upload your site content information and e-mail me the URL of your page by class time.

Bring a hard copy of your answers (rationale)and your sketches to class on 10/1

FTP a copy of the rationale to your pub_html folder.
