Open-Sankoré - Don't Update to OS X 10.10 Yosemite
If using Open-Sankoré, don't update to OS X 10.10 Yosemite. The Open-Sankoré website does not post this prominently, but Open-Sankoré will not run on Yosemite. According to the Open-Sankoré Facebook page, Open-Sankoré will be updated in late November and should work again. The Facebook message reads as follows:
Unfortunately we know this problem for a few weeks with the beta version. Apple changed several important elements that prevents QT to work correctly in Yosemite. We will work to correct this problem as soon as possible (probably late November). Thank you for your patience.

OpenBoard is an alternative to Open-Sankoré that works perfectly on OS X Yosemite. You can read more here.
Software Availability and Other New Technology Services
Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,Information Services is pleased to announce several new software and service offerings which are now available to the DePaul community: Free MS Office for students, access to the Eduroam wireless network, unlimited access to Lynda.com, and software upgrades to Office 2013 and the Adobe Creative Cloud Software Suite.
Microsoft has made the Microsoft Office productivity software available to students at no cost through their Office365 ProPlus offering. The software suite includes: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, InfoPath, OneNote, Visio, Project, and Publisher. With Office365 ProPlus, DePaul students can install the most recent versions of Office applications on up to 5 PCs or Macs and on mobile devices. This new service offering will give you the option to have one experience across all of your devices and keep all your files in sync. DePaul is also working with Microsoft on a program to provide a similar free option to all faculty and staff. We will send a follow-up notice in the next few weeks as we finalize the details with Microsoft.
DePaul University has joined Eduroam, a consortium through Internet2 that facilitates access to wireless networks at educational institutions in the US and abroad. DePaul faculty, staff, and students can easily access the wireless network at participating schools across the world using their DePaul credentials. Using your CampusConnect Username with "@depaul.edu" appended to it and your CampusConnect password, you can connect to the "eduroam" wireless network at participating institutions without the need or hassle of a guest id while on the campus. The "eduroam" wireless network now exists across the DePaul campus as well to provide easy wireless access for guests visiting from other member institutions. Office 2013 and the Adobe Creative Cloud software suite are now available in most university classrooms and labs. Macintosh computers in the classroom and lab environments will continue to use Office 2011 for Mac, but have received the same Adobe Creative Cloud software versions as the Windows computers. The Office 2013 suite will include the 2013 editions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, OneNote, Visio, Project, and Publisher and is now the default version installed on new university computers. The Adobe Creative Cloud software suite includes: Adobe Acrobat Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Dreamweaver, Audition, Fireworks, Illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom and several others. Professor Registration for Google Online Marketing Challenge
Professor Registration for the Google Online Marketing Challenge is open, and professors can register for the Challenge any time from October 8, 2014 to April 8, 2015.
Student registration will open on October 15th.
Changes for 2015 include:
- Academics will need to have a Google account to sign up and will still need to provide a university email for verification purposes
- Students will need two separate Google accounts, one to manage the Student Dashboard and one (a new account) to manage AdWords campaign
- Academics will also gain access to a new GOMC Professor Dashboard - which will provide them with an overview of the progress of their teams

DePaul's Office of Veterans' Affairs has teamed up with Alumni Sharing Knowledge (ASK) and the Office of Alumni Relations to host a career panel of alumni who are veterans. Guest professionals will discuss their career paths and share tips on how to market transferable skills from military service. Meet the speakers for open networking before and after the panel. Open to DePaul students who are veterans.
Remote Proctor Now: Information for Apple OS X Users
Apple has recently noted that it expects to release its newest operating system (OS), MAC 10.10 (or Yosemite), on October 21st, 2014.
For some College of Business online courses, students are using Software Secure’s Remote Proctor Now service for online midterm and final exams.
Currently, Remote Proctor Now developers are reviewing this update to ensure they can support the new OS as quickly after the release as possible. Students using RP Now should not attempt to use or upgrade to MAC 10.10 until Software Secure has confirmed compatibility.

MediaCore / iPad Recording
Maddy Bentley from MediaCore contacted me recently. She had seen my iPad Lecture Capture video, and wanted to share her video “how to capture presentations and screencasts on iPad.”
Maddy provides a demonstration on how to use Doodlecast Pro, along with suggesting some alternative apps.
MediaCore has Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) - so this is a video platform that would work with Desire2Learn, our LMS here at DePaul.
