Also, you must write a 5 page essay on how the Internet, WWW, and associated protocols of such occurred AND how the origins and information effects or should effect someone (such as yourself) that is just learning how to create WebPages. Meaning, why is it important for you to understand the origin/history and background technology of the WWW, Internet etc.?
  5. A bibliography should appear at the end of the paper.
  6. Each entry in the bibliography should contain the author, title, journal title, date, and page numbers. If the entry refers to an article on the Web, include the complete URL for that page.
  7. For more information on the proper use of citations, see Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 4th edition, 1999.

    Citations, footnotes, and references

  • Any information not in common knowledge needs a citation. This includes such items as demographics characterizing some portion of a user population, as well as historical references to occurrences.
  • The citation can either be a numbered footnote, which refers to a citation that appears at the bottom of the current page. It can also take the form of [Author Year], which specifies a reference given at the end of the paper. For example, citing a passage from the Declaration of Independence in this format would require a reference of [Jefferson1776].
  • If you copy any phrase over three words long from a source, you must refer to it as a quotation.
    • For quotations that are under 40 words, enclose the quotation in For a quotation that is over 40 words, use a block quotation. Start the block quotation on a new line, and indent it from both margins. Note: Failure to refer to a copied phrase as a quotation is a classic example of plagiarism. Copying and pasting from articles on the Web constitutes plagiarism. Copying and pasting from a fellow classmate's work constitutes plagiarism. The University policy regarding this subject can be found in the Student Handbook. http://condor.depaul.edu/%7Ehandbook/code17.html
