CITY STORY One of my coworkers is so cultured and up-to-date on the latest and greatest happenings in the city. She is always "reminding" me of new art gallery openings, restaurants, plays and concerts she has attended. It's almost exhausting. I often wonder how she has the energy for everything. Just the other day we were talking, and she explained that she never takes anything for granted in the city because her days in Chicago may be numbered. Her husband's job may soon require them to relocate. I felt sad, because I would miss her, but also because I know I often take Chicago for granted. The city offers so much culture, character, knowledge and entertainment, to residents and visitors alike. I vow to take advantage of it. No more excuses. |

How many times has your pocketbook been empty, but your friends are knocking at your door, wanting to go out on the town? Or maybe you have visitors from out of town who want to experience the city without wasting a lot of money. There are several scenarios where cash resources might be limited. Luckily, in Chicago, this is not a problem. The Windy City offers a multitude of ways to explore the city on a limited budget, without missing a beat. Where else can you ride an elevated train around towering skyscrapers, or appreciate rude waitstaff, or get stuffed pizza for dinner? The city's architecture, its culture, its character, its charm and its charisma are all apparent in simple yet meaningful ways. We just need to be aware of the opportunities and to take advantage of them. |
