LEARNING OUTCOMES

Is any of our information private anymore?

We begin our analysis of cyberspace from an ethical perspective and compare our experiences and values to the ideas and theories of others who think and write about ethical implications of the World Wide Web. In order to do this well, we have to consider a couple of ethical systems (or more), so we have a model to apply to our ideas and challenge our worldviews.

We will also engage the field from a fair presentation of our ideas in class and the discussions will be broadly focused, but we will consider, among other things:

  • the implications of free speech in a free society,

  • an open forum where anyone can enter but some may not have access,

  • differences of opinions that we will engaged without judgment while learning to critique our own personal opinions,

  • the impact of technology on children, etc.

Not all will agree with the ethical positions that are possible when we engage different points of view.
