What is GAP?

Our Purpose
GAP is committed to working with government to establish accountability in the public sector, improve the quality of government services and, thereby, restore confidence in public service. Guided by this purpose, the staff and board of the Government Assistance Program share a core set of operating assumptions which influence their work with governmental agencies.

Some of these guiding assumptions are:
  • The public deserves excellent and efficient services from government.
  • Citizens have a responsibility to be involved in their governance.
  • Public servants can take pride in their work and deserve positive recognition.
  • Investment in developing a government work force will bring a measurable return in improved performance.
These assumptions and the values embedded in them guide the work GAP has done with over 80 government agencies.
