• Law and Ethics: Sanford, Bruce W., "Sanford's Synopsis of Libel and Privacy," Mahwah, N.J., 1991. (Another outstanding primer on media law.)
• Layout and Design: Harrower, Tim, "The Newspaper Designer's Handbook," 4th Edition, Macmillan, 1998, (Regarded as the best design text.)
• Copy Editing: "The Associated Press Stylebook and Libel Manual," 1998. (Considered the best and most widely used newspaper stylebook. I practically memorized it at the AP.)
• Copy Editing: Strunk, William Jr., and E.B. White, "The Elements of Style," Macmillan, 1979. (A classic reference guide.)
• Copy Editing: Brooks, Brian S., "Working with Words,"  St. Martin's Press. 1997. (A concise handbook for media writers and editors.)
