Case Analysis 1

Relational Communication

Purpose:  To demonstrate your ability to apply the course material to a case study.

Assignment:  Read the case scenario (posted here) and analyze it with respect to course concepts from lecture and the readings. 

Specifically, you should:

• Analyze the case in terms of several (2 or 3) macro-level concepts - e.g., Attachment Styles, Knapp's stair case model, Relational Maintenance, etc. 
• Analyze the case at the micro-level as well.  That is, identify several (2 or 3) small issues that illustrate course concepts (e.g., specific concepts from any lecture of reading such as perception, conflict, marital schemata, attraction, etc).

To complete the assignment - you must clearly demonstrate your ability to apply the course material (lectures and readings) to the case scenario.   Make sure that there is a strong connection between the concepts cited and the case provided. 

Mechanics: Your written analysis should be around 4 pages in length (not including the references).  All papers must be typed, double-spaced, and with one-inch margins.  To avoid the appearance of plagiarism, be sure to cite all your sources in the text of the paper.  Also include a reference list.  Use APA style when citing references and making a reference list.  Please keep a copy of your analysis for your own records.

Grading Criteria: Your paper will be graded according to how well you demonstrate your ability to accurately apply the course concepts to your life.
