If you are like me, then you particularly appreciate using the Presenter View in Keynote or PowerPoint. This allows you to present to your audience on one screen, but to see your notes and upcoming slides on a separate display. This helps me keep on track when I present.

Two displays are required, so a simple hack for presenting via Zoom in one of our Zoom+ or Trimodal classrooms is to use Sidecar on an iPad with your Apple laptop. Sidecar extends your laptop display to the iPad, and this extended screen can be what you share in Zoom.

Here is the process to get things working:

  • Verify that both your iPad and laptop can run Sidecar.
  • Have both your iPad and laptop on the same WiFi network (eduroam).
  • On your laptop, extend your display to your laptop via Sidecar.
  • Join your Zoom meeting from both your room and your laptop. You will want your laptop to be co-host of the meeting.
  • Using Zoom on your laptop, share the extended (iPad) screen in Zoom.
  • Start your presentation. Your audience will see your regular slides, but you will see your presenter notes on your laptop.
