Laboratory Exercise for Week 8:

"Mammals"

Lab Objectives: Upon completion of this lab, students should be familiar with the diversification of mammals during the Mesozoic and Cenozoic Eras. This will include a general understanding of evolutionary trends in their anatomy and the important role geography played in their diversification.

Instructions: 1) Complete the module readings first.This will provide the background information on paleoecology.

Mammal Lab

Note: You should complete all lab exercises, but are required to send me 3 laboratory summaries during the quarter as e-mail attachments using the laboratory summary form. Try to keep to a pace of one submission every other week.

The Strategies for modules will combine:

1) Readings from the web.

2) A Weekly Laboratory exercise that provides an application of the learning from one or more module topics.

3) Several relevant Fieldtrip Options for each module providing an opportunity for experiential learning on course topics.

4) Message board and/or Chat Room discussions on the main module topics for the week.

Instructions: 1) You should select one or more virtual fieldtrip to go on for each module. Of course, you are encouraged to explore all fieldtrip options.

2) You should summarize fieldtrips of your choice by filling out a Fieldtrip Summary Form describing your learning.
