- Technology developed by Real Networks.
- Provides the ability to have "real-time" audio and video through the web.
- File begins to play while the sound/movie still downloading in chunks.
- To compensate for slower connections, video quality will be sacrificed to maintain real-time playback of the audio track.
- Streaming media are dependent on continuous access to the server from which the files are coming.
