Homework #3 -- Due: October 18
Purpose:
Develop a familiarity with a variety of Web search engines.
Demonstrate ability to analyze and communicate ideas.
Create content and prepare it for on-line publication.
Demonstrate ability to produce valid and correct HTML code.
Keyword Search on Web Search Engines (50 pts.)
- Take a "keyword" from whatever discipline you are studying and do a search on it in 3 different search engines.
Some possible search engines to choose from (you may use others) are:
- Report the following results of your search in an HTML document that you construct:
- State the term for which you searched.
- Identify and link to the search engines that you used.
- List a few actual "relevant" links that came up under each engine.
- State how many total "hits" you received.
- Give your opinion of the information that you received from each engine and how it was displayed (e.g. general vs. specific, results unorganized vs. organized, etc.). Support your opinion with examples.
- Which of these engines was "best" for your search purposes? Explain your choice.
- Post your HTML document on the Web.
- Turn in a one-page document that states the following:
- The term for which you searched.
- The names of the search engines that you used.
- The URL for your search engine results report.
