X. NetMeeting

NetMeeting is a new state-of-the-art software passed out freely by Microsoft via web downloads and packaged in Windows 98 under START/Accessories/Internet Tools. It is based upon the DirectX technologies for sound, video, drawing, and chat. It also allows for file transfer, remote PC configuration plus desktop and file sharing. Microsoft has provided it with an ActiveX and Scripting SDK to allow developers to embed it in web pages and applications.

Our study on this software was primarily testing it to see how it performed under various conditions. Our tests included placing calls to the Mechanical Engineering Department of Lodz Technical Institute in Lodz, Poland, to ourselves within Chicagoland and our assistant in Poland, Dr. Zdziennicki, placed a call from Poland to Germany to test that connection. For detailed information on this emerging technology refer to the excellent links in our Bibliography.
