General Body Meeting October 13, 2003
Meeting Called to Order by President at 1:15pm.
Members in Attendence : 78
Kara-President- Welcomes everyone back for a new year and the newest
NSCS member.
Shayna – Community Service V.P. - Gave information about Make a
Difference Day which is on Oct. 25th. The first service project is at LaSalle
St. Church Service Center where NSCS members will go to help the elderly with
everyday jobs that they no longer can do. This will be from 11am -2pm. For
more information email Shayna.
The second event will be Sat Oct 25th at 4pm – 7pm at Lincoln Park Community
Center. This event will be a game night with people at the shelter. Any
questions of for more information email Shayna.
Shayna is also thinking about getting together a Big Brother and Sister
Bowling night. She will get back with the details later.
Jibran -- Community Service V.P. - Reported that at induction we
collected close to 500 items!
Shannon -- PFCF V.P. gave information about Planning for College
Success, which is a mentoring program for junior high students informing and
encouraging them about college. We are trying to set up the program with North
Lawndale Co. Center which works with 14 different schools helping kids with
reading, writing and mathematical skills. This will be taking place Mon. –
Fri. from around 9am-2:30pm.
Shannon also brought up the idea of a mentoring day, where we could show
junior high students around campus and take them to assemblies and activities
on campus. She will email more information to those who are interested.
Shannon also brought up the idea of College Wrap which is a program that helps
to donate left over food to charities. She needs volunteers to help bring food
over the charities which may be as close as St. Vincent DePaul so if you’re
willing to help let her know!
Laura – Secretary gave information about College Bowl which is an
academic bowl that is taking place on Nov. 9th from 11am-6pm, if anyone is
interested in signing up for a team or being ion a committee to help out she
would really appreciate your help! And tell your friends this isn’t just a
NSCS event anyone can be part of a team. Any questions just email Laura
Meetings will occur every 2nd Monday of the month at 9:30pm. And minutes will
be emailed to everyone so you can stay up to date!
If you missed Induction you can still pick up your pin in room 303 in the
Student Center in Kelly Schafer’s office.
A Kaplan Representative also was at the meeting informing NSCS members
about graduate school.
