The National Society of Collegiate Scholars
General Society Meeting Wednesday April 16, 2003
Meeting Called to Order by President at 9:37 pm.
I. Glass Slipper Project was a huge success. Sum of donations
were 10 shopping bags of shoes and 5 dresses. Donations handled by Michelle
Valukenas
II. Introduction to the New Officers-
President- Kara, Executive Vice President- George Lattas, Co Vice Presidents
of Community Service Jibran Ilyas and Shayna
Hofmeister, Secretary- Laura Griffin, and Treasurer- Laura Tichacek.
III. Vincentain Student Day is May 3rd and
NSCS will be participating in it at Our Lady of the Garden. For more information
go to www.serviceday.depaul.edu.
Spots are filling up quickly and another site may be added.
IV. The Blood Drive that NSCS is holding
will be on Friday, May 2nd at the Ray Meyer building and all donations will be greatly
appreciated! Spread the word to friends
on campus. Volunteers from Society still needed to assist with table sign in.
V. The Region 7 is actively participating in the Red Cross Initiative.
We will make school chests to go to the children of Afghanistan.
VI. Planning For College Success is offered
for regular volunteers every Monday and Wednesday from 3:30pm to 5pm. It involves
helping kids with school including
assistance with homework or playing school related games. Mondays age group
is 7-10 year olds and Wednesdays age group is 12 to 14 year olds. It is held
at
315 W. Walton off the Chicago Brown Line stop. E-mail with any questions or
concerns.
VII. NSCS is organizing another trip to the Cub’s
Game tentatively
scheduled for May 30th.
VIII. Possible Suggestions for Events were discussed including
a walk such as the Y-Me for Breast Cancer. Shannon Lursch
will coordinate the walk.
IX. The concern of getting more people to attend meetings was
brought up so if you have any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

NSCS in general are welcome. Please go to the website to make any suggestions
or E-mail officers.
X. Meeting Adjourned by President at 10:00pm.
