Mission Statement

The Difficult Dialogue Committee's mission is to promote and convene respectful and critical dialogues on the unique cultural and educational challenges and responsibilities confronting historically excluded or marginalized people, including differently abled, non-citizens and the disenfranchised, people of color, queer, women and/or working class or poor. We are particularly interested in exploring the tensions between academic freedom and hate speech at DePaul University, seeking to safeguard and expand the former without countenancing the latter

To that end, we seek to embody the mission of DePaul University through educationally enriching and intellectually challenging dialogues on the above topics. While we seek to include the excluded and marginalized voices, we believe that only by reaching out to and centering those who are typically excluded from the table, will we truly bring about the type of communion characterized by the work of our founder St. Vincent de Paul.
