The spotted feline appearing on this page is part of a place sign from a six-hundred-year-old painted screenfold book from Oaxaca, Mexico. All of the images on this site come from similar codices made by indigenous Mexicans in the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries. Spaniards conquered the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan in 1521; even through the course of the tumultuous process of colonialism, Aztec, Mixtec and Maya artists continued to sculpt, paint and draw, now also in the company of Spanish missionaries, politicians and artists. The pictures seen here have been redrawn by me after their originals and have been artfully integrated into this website by the 1150designgroup.
