Alioni -- our continuing performing ensemble. We were founded in 2008 out of love and dedication to traditional Georgian folk singing. We have performed at the Chicago World Music Festival, the Evanston Ethnic Arts Festival, the Milwaukee Avenue Arts Festival, the Museum of Science and Industry's "Christmas Around the World" series, and for academic gatherings at DePaul University and the University of Chicago.
For membership, contact Clayton Parr at claytonparr@mac.com for an audition. There is an expectation that singers should be able to match pitch and hold an independent part. We ask a commitment to regular rehearsal attendance and performances. We meet most Saturday mornings in the DePaul neighborhood in Chicago. If you have an interest in performing Georgian music, contact us to learn more details and arrange to attend a rehearsal, or you can meet and sing with us at a Megobrebi session.
Megobrebi
(Georgian for ÒfriendsÓ) is a
group with no continuing commitment or prior experience required -- we meet
several times a year on Saturday afternoons to enjoy potluck and to learn a couple
Georgian songs from scratch, usually by ear. We do
ask for an RSVP to alioni.chorus@gmail.com within 48 hours of each meeting so we
know how many to expect. e-mail an RSVP and weÕll send
exact time and location of the next Megobrebi sing-along, scheduled for January 14, 2012 in the West Loop.
