Explaining Your Major Exercise*

Over the Spring break, you attend a family reunion. Your favorite uncle/aunt/cousin/family person, a top-level manager for a Fortune 1000 company, approaches you and asks how school is going. This person has always taken a keen interest in yourlife and wants to see you succeed almost as must as your parents do. So you take the question quite seriously.

Not knowing exactly how to respond though, you answer tentatively, "Okay, I guess."Your favorite family member, who is not known for letting you off the hook easily next asks you if you have decided on a major yet. You begin to dread where this conversation is going. Your palms begin to sweat. "Er…yes, Communication (note no ‘S’), you reply, hoping desperately that the inevitable will not happen. But it does. "Communication?" inquires your now-not-so-favorite relative, "what’s that all about?"

So…what will you say in answer to the question? Use the material from Chapter 1 to formulate a response.
