Everybody Pays: Two Men and the Price of Truth by Maurice Possley and Rick Kogan
This was a quick interesting read. I liked all the Chicago connections in the book. I was waiting for someone I knew of to appear as a supporting character. ( it never happened ) The twists and turns of the story were unbelievable at times. I'm glad it turned out for the guy that did the right thing. The power of the mob was scary. In the news recently were more 20 year old hit man stories with someone in jail singing to avoid the needle. Only in Chicago? I think not. The power of this organization and their ability to get to you where ever you are would make me second guess getting involved. I now have a list of restaurants that were mentioned in the book that I want to try. I will avoid the small table in the back though.
This was a fun read, especially noting all of the Chicago locations. I wonder if Harry's artwork still hangs in the restaurant called Riccos on Racine right near the UIC campus. The story sort of makes you understand why citizens are hesitant to "get involved" and "do the right thing", when the mob can very simple pull a trump card by paying someone off, and an innocent man and his family end up leading a miserable life, just for telling the truth.
