The Rif Raff Book Club met Sunday March 25 for the book selection Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card at 'Starship' in Forest Park, Illinois.
The Starship was a very wierd place that is famous for their soup and chili. There is science fiction memorabilia scattered about and the design of the place, I think, was to be like a spaceship. The food was good though, if you could stand a life-size cutout of Spock staring at you while you ate.
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
I'm not sure if I could say I liked the book. I did like the Starship soup. It seemed to be written for the writer's audience don't feel there was mass appeal for the work and the overall message of the book (misunderstood peace and harmony in the universe) was nothing new. The characters were predictable and mostly overdone with dialogue that was unnatural and forced. I would say that Orson Scott Card is a career sci-fi writer that has the genre down pat. The book was one that I would not have read if not on the book club list and I don't feel I need to read any more from this writer.
