It is desireable and appropriate to turn in short written material via E-mail. Make sure you do this on or before the due date listed in the syllabus. For longer papers, it is better to turn in a hard copy. When you send an assignment done with a word processor, make sure that it is in a format that I (or any other recipient) can read. It usually works to send it as an MS Word document in .doc format (not .docx, please) attached to an E-mail. When asked to specify a subject, enter the name of the assignment (for instance, MMT 405 - Exercise #2) as appropriate.
Keep in mind that it is your responsibility to make sure that your file is readable by me. Usually there willl not be a problem, but if there is one, I will let you know. There are different word processing programs in use and several different computer platforms. Most of the time recipients can deal with your program and your platform, but sometimes they cannot.
If there is a problem, you can always send your attachment in RTF (Rich Text File) format. This is the most basic format that every word processing program and every platform can handle.
To get your file into the RTF format, you must save it in this format. Here are the steps:
Now all recipients should be able to read your attachment.
- From your word processor, use the Save as ... option.
- Choose the RTF format where it says Save file as Type.
- Put an appropriate name for the file and specify an appropriate location.
- Save the file.
- Attach this file to your E-mail.
