Committee membership was expanded during the 1996-1997 year to include a representative from the Academic Technology Department, a Community Representative, and a Student Representative. Committee members during the 1996-1997 year included Lynn Bryan, Marie Donovan, Jim Duignan, Jerry Foster, Bob Jaffee (Community Representative), Roxanne Owens (Chair – Fall Quarter), Amina Sattar (Student Representative), John Savery (Academic Technology Department), Corey Woods (Chair-Winter and Spring Quarters)

As in the previous year, the Technology Committee continued to focus on assisting students and faculty with choosing, using, and designing instructional technology.

• Acquired a mobile technology station for faculty use in the classroom. This station consists of a PowerPC with Projection Capabilities and a variety of instructional software packages. Policies for its usage and faculty instruction are currently in development.

• Designed and linked the School of Education Web Page to the University Homepage. Information includes graduate and undergraduate programs, outreach programs, admission requirements, administration and faculty, student services, and links to other educational resources

• Explored partnerships with Chicago Public Schools. A representative of the committee met with personnel from various public schools to discern school needs. Plans are underway to offer a series of in-service workshops during the 1997-98 school year.

• Through the efforts of the Dean’s Office and the Administrative Support Staff, a Software Support Specialist position was created and filled to support faculty in implementing technology innovations.

• Space was designated as a faculty and support personnel workstation (SAC 352). This space has 6 PC work stations, a color scanner, a digital camera and is the home base for the Software Support Specialist.

• Representative from the committee attended university-sponsored Technology Workshops including the "Making the Most of" Series and the Summer Technology Workshops.

• Representatives from the committee attended one meeting of each of the program committees to gather information on faculty needs and concerns regarding technology use in and out of the classroom.

• The committee began to explore the possibility of a computer lab with demonstration software for the exclusive use of School of Education students, faculty, staff, and our affiliates.

• The committee surveyed the faculty on their uses of technology in and out of the classroom. Data indicate that more faculty are using technology outside of the classroom and are including technology related assignments and electronic resources in their syllabi.

• Concerns center around issues of privacy, personalism, resources, and support personnel.

• The School of Education Newsletter included a "Technology Page" which focuses on news related to technology developments in the School of Education and highlights a notable resource.

• A "Computers in the Classroom" course was re-designed by two committee members and offered during the summer quarter.

• The School of Education Internet Resource Handbook was distributed to all full and part-time faculty. Faculty were encouraged to include relevant websites in syllabi.

• Designing a Technology Specialist concentration within the Curriculum Development Program.

• Designing a series of technology workshops for student teachers

• Organizing a series of Brown Bag lunch seminars for faculty to demonstrate ways they have integrated technology into their courses/research/service agendas.

• Seeking outside funding for the School of Education Technology Initiatives.
