Plagiarism/Cheating Policy

The following paragraphs summarize university and school policy on plagiarism: Students in this course, as well as all courses in which independent research or writing (including writing computer programs) play a vital part in the course requirements, should be aware of the strong sanctions that can be imposed against someone guilty of plagiarism. If proven, a charge of plagiarism could result in an automatic F in the course and possible expulsion. The strongest of sanctions will be imposed on anyone who submits as his/her own work a report, examination paper, computer file, lab report, or other assignment which has been prepared by someone else. If you have any questions or doubts about what plagiarism entails or how to properly acknowledge source materials be sure to consult me.

Submitting as one's own work, a computer program written by someone else or directly derived from someone else's program is considered plagiarism. (A program is directly derived from someone else's program when the program is identical to someone else's program expect for minor changes such as reformatting, change of variable names, etc.) There is no such thing as the innocent submission of another's program. When sufficient proof exists, it merits the strongest of sanctions (course failure with notification of the student's college dean).

Copying from another student's examination paper or allowing another student to copy from your examination paper is also a violation of DePaul academic standards. The sanctions described above apply.
