Final Review - Spring 99

The final is comprehensive so you should review all quizzes, homework assignments and the midterm. Skip the SAS quiz. There will be no questions on SAS syntax but you are expected to know how to use the output of selected SAS procedures (see below).

Calculators will be needed. Tables and a short list of formulae will be provided.

Check the midterm review if you need practice on the material covered up to the midterm. See the Sampling Distributions, Confidence Intervals & Hypothesis Testing as well as the Correlation & Regression sections of Review Problems & Readings for practice on the following topics:

You should know how to do the following:

  1. State the regression model. Remember that the model consists of a functional part and a set of assumptions.
  2. Interpret the correlation coefficient.
  3. Derive the correlation coefficient r from R-square.
  4. Interpret the parameters of the regression model.
  5. Interpret confidence intervals.
  6. Use the output from proc reg. You should be able to find R-square as well as estimates of the parameters of the regression model.
  7. Use the output from proc corr
  8. Use the output from proc univariate and proc means. You should be able to find basic statistics (i.e. the mean, standard deviation etc.). You should know how to find and use the p-value for a normality test and how to use the box plot.

To further aid your preparation here are three questions, taken from past finals, and the solutions.
