Format

The final is comprehensive so you should review the lecture notes and quizzes. Remember that readings from the text are included in the lecture notes. You should review these readings. The practice problems posted in the Announcements section of the class webpage may help as well.

The exam will be 90 minutes but it is possible to complete all questions in 60 - 75 minutes. The exam will be divided into two sections.

• Technical:

  This section will be similar to the quizzes (i.e. Q#1 - Q#5).

• Descriptive:

  This section will involve writing short descriptions of various concepts and discussing related concepts. These questions will be primarily taken from material on the Relational Model, E-R Model and Transformation.

  To aid your preparation, attempt the following problems:

  • Chapter 3: Problems 3.1, 3.3, 3.4, 3.6, 3.10, 3.13, 3.15, 3.22
  • Chapter 5: Problems 5.2 (relation, tuple, attribute)
  • Chapter 6: Problems 6.1, 6.3 - 6.5, 6.9, 6.10, 6.14, 6.25

  Some of these problems will be discussed at our final review session.
