D2L is the new learning management system that replaced Blackboard at DePaul in January of 2011. D2L has been rigorously tested, and provides a better system to support Commerce’s mission and strategy. However, it is a new system and some training is required to capitalize on the improved functionality and features. This page aggregates information and resources to help you get up to speed with D2L
FITS (Faculty Instructional Technology Support) offers numerous training sessions. You can register for training on their website: http://fits.depaul.edu
Teaching Commons has a repository of PDF training handouts and videos. These documents can be downloaded here.
Additionally, I have a short document that might be helpful to Commerce faculty. This PDF was circulated at the Technology Tuesdays sessions (last updated February, 2012).
Student training is available through MPT (Media Production and Training) - they have posted D2L (Desire2Learn) tutorials for students on their website. The tutorials are available here.
Additionally, in-person group training is available for students.
Desire2Learn has a community site designed to promote collaboration among all Desire2Learn clients who wish to share online strategies, best practices and showcase some of the best ways organizations are utilizing the Desire2Learn Learning Environment. Effect of Learning Management Systems on Student and Faculty Outcomes
Beth Rubin, Ron Fernandes, Maria Avgerinou and I collaborated on a study examining the effects of interactive and learning structures enabled by different Learning Management Systems (LMSs) on satisfaction and learner engagement in online courses. Initial results were presented at the 2010 DePaul Faculty Teaching and Learning Conference on Friday, April 16th, 2010. More information and presentation handouts can be found on my website. A description of our study can be found in Volume 13 (January 2010) of Internet and Higher Education (pages 82-83).
