Schedule/Week 4:

WEEK 4: Using People for Research (part 2)

This class will focus on somewhat more personal interaction with respondents
through interviews and focus groups. We will also discuss participative inquiry, a
process for studying groups and processes in which the researcher is a participant.

The ethical issues related to working with human respondents will also be reviewed.

We will also re-visit the Internet and learn strategies for conducting systematic
searches on "the Web." We will likely meet for this portion of the class either in
the library or a computer lab; you will be notified of this location and whether to go
there or come to the classroom first.

Finally, we will review the Assessment Contract and the information it calls for.

Presentations by: Susan (focus groups) and Michelle (interviews).

Homework: Read True, chapters 4 and 7, and keep notes about any questions you
                        have.

Complete a rough draft of an Assessment Contract so that you can receive feedback
from Jean. A finished contract, ready for signatures, should be one outcome of
                        this colloquium.
