Criteria and Evidence for Assessment:

     Student performance will be assessed according to all the Liberal Learning Colloquia; the
final grade, however, will be based upon performance in Criteria I, II, and IV, as assessed from the
following evidence:

     a. participation in class exercises and discussions, and completion of homework
         assignments;

     b. a brief presentation describing a data-gathering methodology used in the student's
         profession;

     c. a critical entry for a cluster-made annotated bibliography on applied research methods;

     d. a literature review related to an applied research project in the student's Learning Plan;

     e. a completed Assessment Contract for an applied research project; and

     f. the successful achievement of individual learning objectives for the colloquium, that is,
               the three points identified at the beginning of the colloquium and written about briefly at
               the end of each class meeting. Active learning means not only actively participating in the
               assigned activities of the class but actively using the structure of the class and the
               instructor to achieve learning not covered explicitly in the colloquium.

     As in all work at the graduate level, the simple absorption of information is not considered
adequate. Rather, students must demonstrate their increasing skill in the critical consideration of
information, the manipulation of data, and the successful application of a research methodology to
frame a research project.
