Purpose: This course covers what I believe is the most exciting of all the sciences—the science of how the mind works, how people and animals think and learn. Why do I think this science is the most exciting of all? No science could exist without cognition. There could be no science of chemistry or physics or medicine or politics or human social interaction without scientists who think about these subjects, that is, scientists who rely upon their cognitive processes to understand these subjects. Since all sciences depend upon cognitive processes, this field is—to my mind—the bedrock of all of the sciences. Furthermore this science—unlike any other science—is reflective in that scientists who are trying to understanding cognitive processes are relying upon the exact cognitive processes they are studying to try to understand them. In other words, this science looks back upon itself in an infinite regress (kinda trippy, huh?). This course should help you in your own daily life. The better grasp you have on how your own cognitive processes work, the better you will be able to use your own cognitive processes, the better grades you should get, the better your social interactions should be (since you will understand yourself and others better), the better decisions you should make, the better life you should have.
