Say Hello
- Post your short bio to the SayHello D2L
Forum. Never post your phone number or address, or sensitive information.
- ALSO submit your bio to the D2L dropbox.
- Pick five people from the forum that you don't know. Include at
least two people you wouldn't ordinarily talk to.
- Print out YOUR notes on the bio for each of the five people. Bring this to class for review.
- Be prepared to say hello to this person in class, and to comment on
something from their bio when you meet them. Put the face to your notes.
- Be prepared for others to find you, and say hello to you .
- In-class procedure: Phase one: a few minutes simply locating people
without further comment (short), followed by... Phase two: saying hello to all five-ten
(longer).
- Turn in your printed notes after the in-class exercise is over.
Your bio:
It is well known that the forming of a (virtual) community helps learning,
and community building is helped by knowing something unique about the
members of that community. Thus, SOME information about you is useful. Share
some information about who you are (but never anything that would make you
unsafe). For example, if your classmates met you at a party they might
ask...
- Who are you?
- What do you like to do in your spare time?
- What music do you listen to?
- Your all-time favorite movies?
- What are you passionate about one way or the other?
- What are Your degree goals? Why?
- Where do you work?
- Your family?
- In which neighborhood do you live?
So tell us something about yourself! You are not required to answer any
particular questions, but I do want you to take the time to present some
front to the virtual community. (You do not have to tell the truth, but it
is preferred; if you must make up your bio, keep it very short.) You will
be graded only on minimal completion of the assignment, not on the content.
