In-class Discussions

CSC208—Elliott

For each official discussion listed in the calendar:

  1. Put your name at the top. Use the name of the discussion topic as the title. Outline form of your aguments is fine as long as you are clear.

  2. Give the action being proposed.

  3. Write up one page of background notes to prepare for your ethical discussion:

    • Relevant technical information
    • Your gut feeling about the ethically questionable action
    • For each of the four theories, say whether the action is ethical, and give the interesting details of why

  4. Submit to D2L the evening before.

  5. Print six copies of your notes and bring them to class.

  6. Always come to class on discussion days because attendance is taken. These discussions cannot be made up.

In class you will share your written and then spoken ideas in a discussion group. Be prepared to take differing ethical points of view. It is ALWAYS a good idea to consider taking a discussion/debate possition other than the one you truly believe in. These are exercises!

We will also have additional less formal disussions in class.
