CHAPTER 6 – MOTOR IMPLEMENTATION
Study Questions
1. Levine states that gross motor dysfunction is extracurricular, i.e. there is little if any connection between gross motor proficiency and academic success. However, he also states that in the context of an assessment for learning disabilities any complete description of a developing child must contain an assessment of gross motor function and their impact. Is there a connection, even an indirect one between gross motor function and academics? If so, explain why an assessment of gross motor function is important.
2. Discuss the possible reasons that a child might have difficulty with sports activities in school.
3. Discuss the four reasons that children may have difficulty with fine motor implementation. Then look at the sample of handwriting on p. 368. What type(s) of fine motor implementation problems might this student have?
4. Levine develops the concept of developmental output failure. What is developmental output failure and what are its component dysfunctions?
