LAB NEWS:

-2013/14:

-June 11, 2014: Grace Malato and Daniel Reyes passed their oral exams. Now if we can just get those theses done...

-May 5, 2014: Marissa Locke was offered an internship at the Field Museum of Natural History. She will be working with Thorsten Lumbsch on a project examining speciation in lichens. Congratulations Marissa! That makes 3/3 for Summer research positions obtained by non-graduating students in our lab.

-May 3, 2014: The Aguirre Lab participated in “Day at DePaul” on Saturday May 3, 2014. We gave a group of local 7th and 8th graders a tour of the lab and explained why science is awesome.

-April 21, 2014: Lissette Arellano was awarded a Women in Science Internship at the Field Museum of Natural History. She will be working on a project involving Mammal Feeding Systems. Way to go Lissette!

-April 12, 2014: Our paper on morphological and genetic divergence of Hoplias microlepis in rivers and artificial impoundments of western Ecuador won the Best Paper Award in the category of Young Scholar/Ichthyology for the 2013 volume of Copeia.

-April 5, 2014: Lissette Arellano and Maxine Loh presented at the Chicago Area Undergraduate Research Symposium, April 5, 2014. Great job Lissette and Maxine!

-March 1, 2014: Seth Contreras, Grace Malato, Daniel Reyes and Cat Collins attended the Midwest Ecology and Evolution Conference (MEEC) in Dayton, Ohio.

-March 1, 2014: Windsor Aguirre participated in DeSACNAS Parents Day at DePaul. Parents of some of our students got to see the research lab and hear about the research our students conduct.

-February 26, 2014: Grace Malato received a Graduate Research Fund award from the College of Science and Health at DePaul University to travel to Ecuador this Summer. Congratulations Grace!

-February 14, 2014: Cat Collins, Rachel Reynolds, Carla Benedetto, and Maxine Loh presented posters at DePaul's Darwin Day celebration.

-February 2014: Katie Carlson was accepted to the RFUMS/DePaul Research Internship Program and will be spending her Summer conducting research at Rosalind Franklin. Congratulations Katie!

-February 2014: The Department of Biological Sciences will be hosting Darwin Day on February 14. Mark Westneat is our invited speaker. His presentation "The Beak of the Fish: Phylogenetics and Biomechanics of Coral Reef Fishes", will be at 1:00pm. It will be followed by a reception and mini poster session.

-February 2014: Midwest Ecology and Evolution Conference abstract submission extended until Feb 8 and registration extended until Feb 15. See: http://meec2014.wordpress.com/registration/

-January 2014: Marissa Locke and Katie Carlson joined the lab.

-November 2013: Carla Benedetto, Cat Collins, Maxine Loh, Rachel Reynolds, and Webster Vital presented posters at the DePaul Science Showcase on Nov 8, 2013. Way to go!!!

-September 2013: Carla Benedetto, Winer Daniel Reyes, and Grace Malato joined the Aguirre Lab. Good luck!
