TYPE SPECIMENS: USNM 287745 collected by R. Barriga and collaborators March 11, 1985 in Estero La Bocana del Cupa 100 m below Puerto Cupa in the Rio Esmeraldas Basin. Paratypes (same locality details): USNM 291690 and MEPN 4289. |
TAXONOMIC STATUS: Valid (Eschmeyer & Fricke, 2012) |
RANGE ECUADOR: Rio Esmeraldas and Rio Santiago Basins, northwestern Ecuador (Vari, 1989). Appears to be more common in the Rio Esmeraldas basin (Vari, 1989). |
RANGE OUTSIDE OF ECUADOR: None (Vari, 1989). |
COLLECTIONS IN ECUADOR: |
MAXIMUM SIZE: About 10 cm. |
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: Distinguished from other species in the genus Pseudocurimata by the combination of an elongate stripe on the mid-lateral surface of the caudal peduncle and 33-34 vertebrae. Other species in the genus have a dark round or horizontally ovoid mid-lateral spot on the caudal peduncle or 35 or more vertebrae (Vari, 1989). |
