| RANGE OUTSIDE OF ECUADOR: Rio Patia drainage in western Colombia (Eigenmann, 1922). |

| MAXIMUM SIZE: 28 cm (Isbrücker, 1980). |
| DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: Hypostomus annectens differs from other loricariids by the following characters: interopercle with four short, stiff spines, seven bony plates between dorsal and adipose fins, twenty-eight lateral bony plates (Glodek, 1978). |
| ECOLOGY: Hypostomus annectens, known in Ecuador as the “guacuco”, is a small, ecologically important detritivorous fish (Barriga, 1994). |
| ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE: Not economically important. |
