IT231 -- Announcements

11/20. The Final Website Project is due tonight at 6:00pm, although I will not finish grading them until after 9:00pm. If you submit your project before I finish grading them or before 11:00pm, which ever comes later, I will not count it late.

No projects will be accepted after noon tomorrow (11/21). I will submit final course grades to the registrar tomorrow evening. Email me if you must submit your project tomorrow so that I can include the score for your Final Website Project in the grade calculation.
11/17. The answers for Part B of the Sample Final B are posted on the ExamInfo Page at the bottom. Also, the code for the OnlineStore Example is posted. We discussed this example on 11/13. See Example 32.5.
11/13. Our class will not meet in the lab today. We will meet in CDM 226.
11/6. Remember to complete your Professor evaluations by the end of the day on Tuesday, Nov. 13. You should have received email directions from the Provost's office. You will use CampusConnect to submit your evaluation, not MyCDM.

10/22. On October 23, we meet in the CDM 226 classroom.
10/22. We will discuss the Final Project on October 25 and also allow some time at the end of class to work on Project 5.

10/19. If you have any apostrophes (') in quoted strings, best practice is to write it as \'. An apostrophe without the \ is okay in double quotes, but will not work in a single quoted string. If you copied your quote directly from the web, you may have obtained a character such as ’ (curly apostrophe or right single quote mark) with a different encoding that confuses Rails. You can put this curly apostrophe in your own HTML code by using the special symbol ’.
10/19. If you are getting an error with Project 4 that states that a nill object does not have a specified method, you may have had a problem in the seeds file. Go to the rails console and type QuoteInfo.count. If this count is zero, it means that no rows were added to the database table. When you run the seeds.db file, you should get error messages to help you see what is wrong. Double check the db/schema.rb file to see if you misspelled any field names or gave them the wrong datatype.
10/18. Here is the easiest way to set the birth and death dates in the seed file:

9/6. Set Microsoft Explorer on your PC to show file extensions:
1. To invoke the MS File Explorer, select Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Windows Explorer.
2. From the MS File Explorer, select Organize >> Folder and search options. Select the View Tab and uncheck the box for " Hide extensions for known file types."
You should do this on the remote desktop connection computer as well as your local machine.
