Drawing Tools Summary

 

Drawing Tool Icon Description
Line (N) Draws staight line from start point to end point.
Uses current stroke color.
Shift key restricts lines to multiples of 45 degree
     angles.
A line can be bent by Free Transform tool.
Pencil (Y) Draws free form lines and shapes.
Uses current stroke color.
Pencil Drawing Modes:
     Straighten, Smooth, Ink.
Drawing Settings:
     Connect Lines, Smooth Curves, Recognize Lines,
     Recognize Shapes, Click Accuracy.
Select Edit >> Preferences >> Drawings
to adjust Drawing Settings
Brush (B) Draws filled shapes.
Uses current fill color.
Free Transform Tool acts on entire shape only.
Brush painting modes:
     Paint Normal, Paint Fills, Paint Behind,
     Paint Selection, Paint Inside.
Pen (P) Draws precision lines and smooth curves.
To draw with the Pen Tool, you should understand
     Three Pen Tool Preferences
     Seven Pen States
     Eleven pen and other drawing icons
Rectangle (R) Press mouse at one corner, drag to
     diagonally opposite corner.
Hold down shift key to draw square.
While dragging, use up and down arrow keys to
     round corners.
Border is drawn with current stroke color;
     interior is filled with current fill color.
PolyStar Tool?
Oval (O) Use mouse to draw bounding rectangle.
Hold down shift key to draw circle.
Border is drawn with current stroke color;
     interior is filled with current fill color.
Text (T) Text can be static, dynamic or input.
Static text cannon only contain only blanks.
Break apart to transform letters separately.
Eraser (E) Deletes entire shape or parts of shape
     (lines and fills).
Can also delete with Delete Key after
     selecting shape.
Selection (V) Click to select line or shape
Click while holding down Shift Key to select
     multiple lines and fills.
Draw rectangle to select everything in rectangle.
Subselection (A) Used to modify lines drawn by Pen Tool.
Specifically, the Subselection Tool
     moves or edits tangent lines or anchor points.
     moves individual objects.
Lasso (L) Used to make freeform selections.
Use Magic Wand with Lasso Tool to select
     areas of similar color.

Transform (Q)
Used to modify lines and fills:
     Move, Skew, Shear, Rotate, Scale Side,
     Scale Corner, Move Axis Point
Used to bend lines and move tangents.
EyeDropper (I) Used to sample a color from a line or fill.
When line is sampled, it automatically converts
     to InkBottle Tool when moved off of line.
When fill is sampled, it automatically converts
     to PaintBucket Tool when moved off of fill.
Ink Bottle (S) Used to change color of a line.
     Stroke color obtained from Ink Bottle Tool.
PaintBucket (K) Used to change color of a fill.
     Fill color obtained from Ink Bottle Tool.
Gradient
Transform (F)
Used to modify Bitmap or Gradient fills.
