The Rif Raff Book Club's November selection was The Santaland Diaries by David Sedaris.

Santaland Diaries by David Sedaris

Reader # 1's review:

This was a very funny, however brief, awakening into the land of Macy's Elves and all the commercialism and rudeness that goes with the season. How topical that it was November's book club selection and the major motion picture Elf debuts this month. Basically, Sedaris is a smart ass with a cutting wit and a reasonably good writing style. I was somewhat confused by the websites description of this being written in two plays, actually it is a short story in a collection of holiday short stories by Sedaris. In any case, it was a nice "Book Club Lite" selection for the fast approaching holiday season.

Reader # 2's review:

I really liked this short play and brag letter. I thought it was really funny and it had a good behind the scenes look at a very common experience. I thought the writer presented the material in a style that talked directly to the reader in a way that let the reader be an observer to the experience. I guess that was due to the format of the work. Reading a play can sometimes be a real chore with all the stage direction and set / clothing descriptions. This play was short and sweet and I wanted it to go on a bit longer. Well maybe a play about store Santa's can't go past Christmas, but I want to read more of this authors work.
