Photo not in best interest
When I look at the front page of the DePaulia, I expect to find a picture
relating to the interests of the majority of the students at DePaul. Instead,
on April 17 I found a picture of homosexuals kissing with a caption of
"Queer Kiss-In." This is definitely not in my interest at all, and I'm
sure I am not alone in saying this. I would not expect the newspaper of
the second largest Catholic university in the country to advertise gays
playing tonsil hockey on the front cover. I was under the impression that
Catholicism did not support homosexuality, much less promote it.
The point of the "Queer Kiss-In" was to push for equal treatment of
gays. Why is it that if straight people kiss in public the most common
comment heard is, "Get a Room"? But when gays kiss in public, it's on the
cover of the school newspaper? This is definitely not equal treatment.
I do not appreciate being forced to look at men kissing men on the cover
of the DePaulia. It is most certainly out of line, and makes our school
look like a liberal second-class college. Seeing this makes me ashamed
to tell people that I attend DePaul University.
