Descriptions
The International Marketing and Finance Problems
and Practices Series (IMFPP):
The IMFPP is a coordinated set of courses that runs throughout the entire MBA/IMF program. Students learn current international
finance and managerial techniques through in-depth case study analysis. When appropriate, courses are team-taught by faculty
from the departments of Marketing and Finance. Students also get valuable exposure to real world international business expertise
through DePaul's network of business partners in the metropolitan Chicago area.
International
Business and Culture Immersion:
During the fourth quarter of the program, students participate in an immersion in global business practice and culture as appropriate
for their individual backgrounds. For U.S. students, this practicum utilizes DePaul's partnerships with a worldwide network
of universities to provide on-site international business exposure. Depending on language skills, some students may be involved
in internships with companies in Europe, South America or the Far East. Non-U.S. students will participate in a internship program
with multinational firms located throughout the United States. For a listing of where MBA/IMF students have completed internships,
please refer to the Internship
page.
Executive Colloquium Series:
The Executive Colloquium Series is an interactive weekly speaker series,
through which students can learn from some of the most talented senior level executive and government officials. These are the
men and women shaping the international marketplace. Past speakers have included the Vice Chairman and CFO of McDonald's;
Chairman of the Board from Motorola, The Northern Trust, Ralston Energy Systems-Europe; the Consul General of Japan; the President
of Commonwealth Edison (and former White House Chief of Staff in the Bush Administration).
Marketing and Financial Issues
in Developing Economies:
The areas of the world with developing economies provide tremendous opportunities and challenges for international business
activities. Because such "developing" nations often enjoy the highest rates of economic growth, students in the IMF
program can acquire first-hand field experience through travel and study in these developing nations. As an elective, IMF participants
can engage in an International seminar, studying from seven to fourteen days in Asia, Central Europe, Mexico, or Central America.
Students visit government offices, universities, companies and financial institutions to observe how Western management ideas
have been adopted in centrally planned economies.
