Sense of Community

• Industrialization replaced the sense of coherence and satisfaction with one’s craft with a new emphasis on getting ahead as the central value

• In the 1940s and 50s, there was a new dedication to an ever-rising standard of living; this justified the industrial work role but slowly replaced the traditional sense of community
