Example: pilgrims coming to the new world and clearing the forests rather than keeping them for their game as was done by Native Americans
- Do we sanctify and appreciate the interconnectedness with the land and the other animals
- Do we repudiate our link with nature, a world seen as wild, dangerous and needing to be controlled
