"Tenants about to move into the Monet Apartments, 1961 N. Lincoln Ave, will have the distinction of living in the first new apartment building erected in the OT area in more than 40 years.

The modern 16-apartment building of Anthony Romano and Associates is on a site formerly occupied by four old rooming houses.  It includes: 12 one bedroom and 4 efficiency units that are wired for year around comfort with electric radiant heating and room air conditioners.

The Romano plan for modern living in OT also features all-electric kitchens and living rooms that open to balconies through sliding, double-glazed windows.

Efficiency units are equipped with one-piece kitchen utility centers by General Chef.  The versatile appliance includes an electric oven, surface units and refrigerator plus sink and storage compartment.  Larger kitchens are fitted with General Electric ranges, refrigerators, and cabinets.

Electromode baseboard heaters with attached thermostats are used in combination with bathroom wall panel heaters to provide zone-controlled heating in the Monet Apartments.

According to Commonwealth Edison Company, there are now six all-electric buildings with a total of 48 apartments in the Old Town-Northtown area.  Twenty-four buildings of the same type are under construction or planned for the area.  They will have a total of 160 apartments."

"At the October meeting of the OTTA Eugene Beck, Principal, LaSalle Elementary School, acknowledged the crucial role which the OTTA played several years ago in efforts to secure a new building and to see that the old one was razed rather than used for other purposes.  At the present time around 800 children are in attendance, with an average of 32 per room.  Compared to many schools which must depend on substitute teachers, all teachers at LaSalle are certified and meet standards as strict as any school in the city.  Children come from diverse economic, social, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.  This creates some problems, but the school enjoys unique opportunities for dealing with human relations.  A pleasant 'free and easy' atmosphere prevails, according to Mr. Beck, and knowing Mr. Beck we feel sure this is the case...."

"Sharp operators in the real estate business are currently flooding the area with offers to buy property.  Some are using scare tactics - to say nothing of scare pressure.  One of their arguments is that property values will go down (Obviously, that is why they want to buy!).  Report such misrepresentations and false pretenses to the Newsletter, giving names and telephone numbers.  Anyone contacting you who is not willing to provide this information is more likely to be a burglar surveying your property than a real estate man.  Keep in mind that the police are much interested in receiving reports of suspicious characters."
