"Tenants about to move
into the Monet Apartments, 1961 N. Lincoln Ave, will have the distinction
of living in the first new apartment building erected in the OT area in
more than 40 years.
The modern 16-apartment
building of Anthony Romano and Associates is on a site formerly occupied
by four old rooming houses. It includes: 12 one bedroom and 4 efficiency
units that are wired for year around comfort with electric radiant heating
and room air conditioners.
The Romano plan for
modern living in OT also features all-electric kitchens and living rooms
that open to balconies through sliding, double-glazed windows.
Efficiency units are
equipped with one-piece kitchen utility centers by General Chef.
The versatile appliance includes an electric oven, surface units and refrigerator
plus sink and storage compartment. Larger kitchens are fitted with
General Electric ranges, refrigerators, and cabinets.
Electromode baseboard
heaters with attached thermostats are used in combination with bathroom
wall panel heaters to provide zone-controlled heating in the Monet Apartments.
According to Commonwealth
Edison Company, there are now six all-electric buildings with a total of
48 apartments in the Old Town-Northtown area. Twenty-four buildings
of the same type are under construction or planned for the area.
They will have a total of 160 apartments."
