PARTLY CLOUDY, CHANCE OF RAIN
ANGRY STORM CAUSES FLOOD OF BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS -- When a torrential rainstorm pounds Chicago, patients stack up while Dr. Weaver (Laura Innes) speeds to an accident site where a pregnant woman (guest star Nina Landey) lies injured inside a wrecked ambulance while live power lines spark -- until heroic first-year resident Gallant (guest star Sharif Atkins) makes a dangerous leap of faith. Elsewhere: a shaky Dr. Benton (Eriq La Salle) gets the lab reports that will determine if he is the father of his son Reese; Kovac's (Goran Visnjic) new girlfriend (guest star Julie Delpy, "Killing Zoe") gets in trouble and gives him some unexpected news; Dr. Carter is shocked to see his grandmother (guest star Frances Sternhagen) wheeled in after breaking her hip in a hit-and-run car accident which injures a young woman (guest star Amy Jo Johnson, "Felicity") -- and Dr. Greene (Anthony Edwards) tends to a guilt-ridden boy (guest star Jack Johnson) who feels responsible for the disappearance of his younger brother after playing in a flooded river. Maura Tierney, Michael Michele, Sherry Stringfield and Paul McCrane also star. Lisa Vidal (NBC's "Third Watch") also guest-stars.

Overview: In the series, the overworked and underpaid residents are the heroes of County General Hospital as they make life-and-death decisions every day. The staff includes Dr. Mark Greene (Edwards), a senior attending physician who has survived both personal and professional crises; the gifted Dr. John Carter (Wyle), in recovery from substance abuse and about to complete his residency; Dr. Kerry Weaver (Innes), a tough and determined chief of emergency medicine who recently came out as a lesbian and Dr. Elizabeth Corday (Kingston), a dedicated surgeon juggling a new marriage (to Greene) and a new baby.

Also on staff are Dr. Luka Kovac (Visnjic), an ER attending physician from Croatia with a painful past; Abby Lockhart (Tierney), a former medical student who’s resuming her nursing career in the ER; Dr. Robert Romano (McCrane), the arrogant chief of staff who enjoys wielding his considerable power; Dr. Jing-Mei Chen (Ming-Na), an attending physician who’s sacrificed everything for her career; and Dr. Susan Lewis (Stringfield), an ER veteran who returned home to Chicago after a five-year absence. Sharif Atkins joined the cast this season as Michael Gallant, a third-year medical student who is working his way through medical school on the US Army’s ticket.
