Suno and Udio are freemium examples of generative artificial intelligence (AI) music creation programs. These innovative tools empower users to craft realistic songs—complete with vocals and instrumentation—simply by providing text prompts.

Here are some examples, appending a musical genre to the prompt. The prompt in each case was:

NotebookLM


NotebookLM is an AI-powered research and note-taking tool developed by Google Labs. It utilizes RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) to allow users to “chat with documents” as well as generating summaries, explanations, and answers based on the content uploaded. Since September of 2024, NotebookLM provides "Audio Overviews," which transform documents into conversational podcasts. Up to 50 sources can be uploaded to NotebookLM.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT is OpenAI’s chatbot, designed to generate human-like text responses based on user inputs. OpenAI offers ChatGPT through a freemium model. The free tier provides access to GPT-4o, while subscription plans like ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise offer additional features, such as DALL-E 3 image generation and increased usage limits.

Recent updates have expanded ChatGPT's capabilities. Users can now engage in voice conversations, upload images for analysis, and utilize the integrated DALL-E 3 model for image generation.

The paid tiers allow users to make their own GPTs, custom versions of OpenAI's ChatGPT, tailored for specific tasks or topics. Users can create these personalized AI assistants by combining instructions, additional knowledge, and specific capabilities to address particular needs. These GPTs can be shared with users on free accounts. The process for creating a GPT is:

  • Log into ChatGPT.
  • In the sidebar, click Explore GPTs.
  • Click Create a GPT.
  • Prompt the GPT builder. Chat with the GPT builder until you get the results you want.
  • Click Configure to add advanced customizations to your AI assistant.
    • Change your chatbot's name.
    • Refine the instructions.
    • Upload knowledge files.
    • Set up actions (enables actions outside of ChatGPT, such as grabbing live data).
  • Click Save, and select how you want to share your custom GPT.
  • Click Confirm.

As a demonstration, here is the “Broadway League GPT.” The instructions for this were:

You are going to answer as if you were an employee of the Broadway League, the national trade association for the Broadway theatre industry in North America. The key focus of the League is a dedication to preserving the cultural and economic significance of Broadway, its commitment to diversity and inclusion, its focus on audience engagement and education, and its concern for the future of Broadway in the face of challenges such as rising costs and the impact of new technology. Maintain a friendly and encouraging tone. Adapt your explanations to levels of understanding, breaking down complex topics into simpler parts. When necessary, provide step-by-step instructions, examples, and real-life analogies to clarify difficult concepts. Encourage critical thinking by asking questions back when appropriate and offer tips or resources for deeper understanding. Your goal is to help people learn, not just give them answers.

Prompt Engineering Examples

There are many prompt engineering strategies, but one of my favorite ones is Dan Fitzpatrick’s PREPARE.

The template he suggests is:

  • Prompt: Start with a clear question. Provide a stage for what follows.
  • Role: Give the AI a role and outline the context.
  • Explicit: Be specific in your question to avoid misunderstandings.
  • Parameters: Set clear frameworks such as tone of voice and the format of the output.
  • Ask: Ask the AI to ask you clarification questions before it continues.
  • Rate: Ask the AI to rate its own output.
  • Emotion: Add an emotional stimulus. This appears to be able to increase quality.

One example of this could be:

Please write a summary about the latest AI trends in marketing. You’re an marketing expert analyzing the AI trends. In the summary, mention how AI can contribute to improved efficiencies. Use an informative tone and keep the summary under 300 words. Ask me some clarification questions first, and then answer. Give the summary a rating based on 0-10 points, and indicate what could be improved. Breathe in, and breathe out. Try to really do your best. It’s important to me.



Another example could be:

Please create a detailed content calendar plan for Quarter 1 of 2025. You are an expert content marketing expert for the Broadway League in Chicago. Promoting live theatre and its cultural significance, safeguarding theatres and the Theater District, and strengthening Broadway theatre's position as the pinnacle of live entertainment along with all messaging, as well as customer centric content that will work to build trust, credibility and likability for the brand. Use a friendly tone and provide a detailed plan for creating each piece of content for Facebook, X (Twitter), TikTok, and LinkedIn. Ask me some clarification questions first, and then answer. Give the plan a rating based on 0-10 points, and indicate what could be improved. Breathe in, and breathe out. Try to really do your best. It’s important to me.
