Underpants To Go retail chain
Due date: Wednesday, May 14, 2008
One of your references for this homework is H4practice.htm. Go through the practice in class and then return here to do this homework.
For this homework you will need Microsoft Access.
Captain Underpants has been such a hit that everyone, both kids and adults alike, have been clamoring for
underwear just like his.
By the way, that's the Captain over there to the left - he's the bald guy with the red cape* and white underpants. Anyway, as a result of
all this devotion to the Captain and his underpants, he decided to start a franchise and he named it Underpants To Go.
It caters to the busy person that doesn't have time to shop around looking at all the multitudes of models and styles. It started out as a
small regional company in Florida. What with all the success, it has recently branched out, opening a number of stores in Illinois. The Captain
encourages its franchisees to own many stores, but a specific store is associated with only one person. Your predecessor at the home office
has started a database to keep track of stores and franchisees, but he died unexpectedly, so it is up to you to complete the work.
Proceed as follows:
- Download the Underpants-to-Go03.mdb database. The Stores and Franchisees tables have already been created, and
data has been entered into both tables. The StoreID and FranchiseID have been set as AutoNumber fields in their respective tables. Note that the
FranchiseID is a required field in the Stores table because the company will not build a store unless a franchise has already been approved
for that store.
- Open the Relationships window and create the one-to-many relationship between franchises and stores. Enforce referential integrity.
- Your first task is to create a main/subform combination that is similar to the one pictured below. One procedure for doing this was outlined
for the RealEstate database given above. Start the Form Wizard. Select the Franchise table and include all the fields in this table. Now select
the Stores table and include all fields except the FranchiseID; this field need not appear on the subform because it already is on the main form.
View the data by Franchise, choose datasheet as the layout for the subform, select a style (I chose standard), then modify the completed form
in Design view. Your main form should be named Franchisees and the subform, Stores Subform.
- You do not have to match my design exactly, but you are to include all of the indicated controls. Your name should appear in the Form Footer.
Add the three command buttons to the main form as shown.
- Use the completed form to enter data for yourself. You will automatically be assigned a Franchise number. Add two stores once you have completed
your personal data. The store numbers will be assigned automatically as well. Do not make any changes to the existing data in the tables. And don't
forget the company logo, i.e., Captain Underpants.
- Requirements:
- Your database file with parts a through e complete.
- Your database file must be called H4-Smith.mdb, where Smith is your last name.
- Double check that your database file opens properly and that your two forms
open properly and contain all required controls.
- Just prior to submitting, open your database file and click on:
Tools >> Database Utilities >> Compact and Repair Database. Now close your database and
- Submit your H4-Smith.mdb file using COLweb.
