Publishing documents to a web server

The easy and safe way using a Secure Shell

1.       Click on Start | Internet Applications | SSH Secure Shell | Secure File Transfer Client.  Choose File | Connect from the menu.

2.       Log in by entering the machine name and your login name.  Enter your password in the pop-up.  If you can not get this step to work, you will have to go back to Student Services and have your password reset.

3.       On the remote machine (right hand panel) you should see a folder called public_html, right click on it and choose Properties. Under Read: Owner, Group, and Other should be checked.  Same for Execute.  Under Write only Owner should be checked.  Click OK.

4.       Double click on your public_html folder – this opens it.

5.       Create an IT130 folder on the remote machine. Right click and choose Properties. Make sure the Permissions are properly set.  Open the IT130 folder.

6.       Locate the file you wish to transfer on the local machine (left hand panel) and drag it to the remote machine.

7.       Create an Images folder on the remote machine. Right click and choose Properties as we did above, etc.  Open the Images folder.

8.       Locate your image file fileName.jpg on the local machine and drag it to the remote machine.

9.       Test that your work succeeded by using the browser to view your text document and your image.
